"We all have the same goal - to change as quickly as possible!"

Sunday, June 5, 2022

With the goal of having a fossil-free vehicle fleet by 2030, it is of the utmost importance for ELIS to be part of collaborative projects such as REEL. In this interview with Patrik Nyholm , Purchasing Manager for ELIS , you can read about how and why he sees that cooperation is crucial for us to be able to transform Sweden's vehicle fleet, but also what some of the advantages for haulage companies are of driving electric.

ELIS's focus is textile and hygiene solutions. Their business model is based on renting out textiles to businesses within, among other things, industry, healthcare, the hotel and restaurant industry. About four years ago, they chose to have all transport under their own auspices, in this way, they got closer to the customer with the driver as a service function. But they also allow them to influence the type of vehicle that drives their goods, with the goal of being climate neutral by 2030, the transition to an electric vehicle fleet is also much easier.

Within REEL, transport buyers, freight forwarders and distributors, haulage companies, terminal operators, charging point operators, electricity grid companies and suppliers of trucks, charging equipment and management systems collaborate, which brings great opportunities to share experiences and knowledge.

''It is important to do it together in order to be able to share the knowledge of how others intend to do, do and have done. Several parts of the electrical logistics system are unbroken ground. It is new both for us as a carrier as well as for truck and charging infrastructure manufacturers'',  says Patrik

In addition to the regular meetings that take place within REEL and with Volvo Trucks, ELIS and Martin & Spervera have quarterly meetings to learn from each other. An exchange of knowledge that makes a difference.

Everyone wants to be involved in this kind of work, no one keeps any secrets. Everyone has the same goal, we must change as quickly as possible!

ELIS sees that also from a working environment perspective, it is important to switch to electric operation. One of the reasons why they bought their first hybrid was because when they drive down into the garages under the hotels, it is important from a work environment perspective to drive on electricity.

''What I can ascertain for myself after I rode in one of the trucks earlier in June is that it is a completely different comfort to drive an electric truck in terms of working environment, it is quiet, it is easier to handle, it does not smell'', says Patrik .

Facing the future and the goal of achieving climate-neutral transport by 2030, ELIS looks at possible solutions - together with vehicle manufacturers. This applies both to the distribution that runs electrically today, but also to transport over longer distances and with heavier equipment.

Fact Box REEL:

REEL is a national initiative where leading Swedish actors have joined forces to accelerate the transition to electrified, emission-free heavy transport on our roads. Within the venture, we establish, run and evaluate around 60 different regional logistics flows in varying types of driving assignments. REEL brings together transport buyers, forwarders and distributors, haulage companies, terminal operators, charging point operators, electricity grid companies and suppliers of trucks, charging equipment and management systems. In addition, regions, national authorities and universities participate in this initiative.
