About the project

It brings together a group of new and existing stakeholders from the regions involved who want to move forward with work on a shared system for intra and interregional electrified road transport, which will be validated over the course of a number of demonstrations.

Objective

The objective of the SCALE project is to gather information about the logistics system operated by the logistics companies and regions involved in order to carry out a more in-depth analysis of a larger project. The analysis in the larger project will promote the development of a general platform for electrified logistics systems and this in turn will support the growth of an interlinked region with sustainable, zero-emission, electric road transport. The following objectives will initially be addressed by SCALE with the aim of achieving this:

• The sharing of knowledge across regional borders between new and existing players will continue in order to improve the participants' knowledge levels. Meetings and joint activities will encourage the spread of knowledge and enable influencing activities to take place across a broader front.
   
• The initial analysis of regional logistics flows will allow solutions for the electrification of the logistics system to be produced together with other players and will generate information about how this influences the logistics system.
   
• An investigation of the energy and power requirements of the logistics system will allow the system's need for energy and power over a five- to ten-year period to be established.
   
• A survey of potential local and regional bottlenecks in the supply of electricity for the requirements that have been identified and of the options for eliminating the bottlenecks, together with the time frame involved.
   
• A survey of the types of costs and the amounts involved in electrifying the logistics system, in terms both of investment and daily operating costs, in relation to the different players expected to be involved in the electrified system.
