Explore the project results

The project has yielded significant outcomes, including the establishment of robust collaboration among the municipality, university, and industry partners. A comprehensive dataset has been successfully gathered, specifically focusing on road crossing behaviors in school areas within Jönköping. Additionally, a groundbreaking concept for an AI- and data-based decision-making support tool for infrastructure planning has been developed.

There is also a planned continuation project called DAIMOND with secured funding by the Vinnova call: start your AI journey - municipalities.

Project Insights

The project team has collectively gained experience in utilizing AI techniques to enhance their operations and performance.

Jönköping University's AI Lab (JAIL) will continue to share knowledge on AI methodologies and technologies. This expertise contributes to the development of AI solutions for understanding how people cross streets. The work will benefit JAIL in future AI initiatives and the advancement of AI research and applications in real-world contexts.

Viscando will further be able to contribute expertise in data collection and management, machine learning, AI, and the analysis of interactions between road users. Additionally, any shortcomings and future needs for traffic data collection will be able to be identified, allowing Viscando to enhance technology and services, thereby better supporting municipalities in the development of traffic infrastructure.

Conclusions and next steps

Following the results outlined above, an ongoing project is actively constructing a demonstrator for an AI decision-making support tool. The project team foresee the need for additional projects to delve deeper into the data and AI necessary to tackle infrastructure challenges, expand the practical implementation to more municipalities in Sweden and abroad, and broaden the tools for various traffic situations.

The collaborative model facilitated by the AI Enhanced Mobility project, manifested in SINTIA, where municipalities, research organizations, and innovative SMEs jointly tackle mobility challenges, has demonstrated success.
