In March 2015, it emerged that VINNOVA supports a new feasibility study called "Bypass Logistics - Efficient Use of Infrastructure. "The project is coordinated by CLOSER and managed by DB Schenker Consulting.

The term “bypass logistics” refers to the interface between urban and inter-urban transport, in other words, transport between cities and industrial areas, terminals, ports and so on. Traditionally, research and projects were carried out in city centers (City Logistics) or on long-distance transport routes. These transport operations are affected to a great extent by how urban infrastructure is used and thus it is also crucial to focus on the interaction between the two.

Bypass logistics is an area and project proposal that the CLOSER working group discussed over a protracted period, and to which the partners agreed that more insight and tests were required.

In March 2015, VINNOVA approved such a feasibility study. Financing is provided by FFI (Strategic Vehicle Research and Innovation). The purpose of the study is to explore the potential for improving the efficiency of bypass logistics for freight operations, so that ultimately it may even conduct full-scale demonstrations.

A total of seven partners from industry, research institutes, universities and government agencies nationwide in Sweden – Schenker Consulting AB Volvo, Scania, Chalmers, KTH (Royal College of Technology), the Swedish Transport Administration and CLOSER at Lindholmen Science Park – are involved in the study. The project commenced on April 1, 2015 and will run until March 31, 2016.
