Multimodal information sharing

Over the spring and summer of 2018, the Multimodal Information Sharing Cooperation Project (MMID in Swedish) took the first steps toward creating conditions for a standardized information-sharing service for industrial freight flows. The project has taken the form of a preliminary study, of which the purpose is to use two use cases to identify gaps in the flow of information - something that today occurs in modal shifts between vehicles and other modes of transportation.

The mapping will identify possible information outlets from existing terminal systems, as well as data that can be obtained within  Sea Traffic Management for shipping and Shift2Rail (FR8HUB, Intelligent Video Gates) for rail transport. Based on the survey of available - and contemporary stakeholder-specific data, a system architecture will be developed to collect and disseminate relevant information among the stakeholders in the supply chain for the overall purpose of monitoring freight consignments and measuring the condition of freight in transit. A future possibility of avoiding shortcomings in efficiency is an expected result of increased transparency for shippers as well as for customers and carriers. One crucial factor for the project is to evaluate whether or not there are efficient business models that distribute benefits among all the stakeholders involved, which is regarded as a fundamental precondition for any future demonstration projects.
