Electrified regional logistics flows

In this work, we will make an initial system demonstrator with battery-electric trucks that use stationary charging in Stockholm Mälardalen and Västra Götaland. The project will also work to identify partners who want to test electrified logistics and then find common solutions for electrification.

Initial system demonstrations in Stockholm Mälardalen & Västra Götaland

In Stockholm-Mälardalen, Scania, together with Dagab and the charging station operator Evbox, will deliver food to Axfoods grocery stores in the region. The trucks will be charged at night, but there are also support charging options during the day at Dagab's terminal.

Together, they will test and develop electrification of regional transports with heavy trucks in practice.

Production of Scania's electric trucks will begin in December in Södertälje, and at the beginning of 2021, distribution vehicles based on Dagab's warehouse in Jordbro will deliver goods to a number of different stores in the Stockholm area. These are both Scania's new plug-in hybrid and Scania's all-electric truck.

Volvo Trucks will, together with DHL, run a demonstrator based in Western Sweden, which includes distribution of goods during the day and regional line-haul transports during the night.

Preparation for large-scale system demonstrator Västra Götaland, Stockholm and Skåne

Find and identify partners who want to test electrified logistics. To then jointly map logistics flows and find solutions on how these should be electrified. It is important to have a wide spread of logistics flow types within the framework of what available vehicles and infrastructure allow in order to be able to learn as many lessons as possible. New types of players for the future value chain must also be sought.

With identified players comes a matching of logistics needs with system concepts for and dimensioning of included modules and their integration: complete vehicle (configuration of trucks with regard to body and battery size), loading sites, charging strategy (power, energy, depot/destination/audience) , charging stations (incl. location, charging points, physical design and network connections), related services and overall operation control to take place. Experiences from AP1 will be used.

With identified actors, documentation is prepared for the partner consortium, including cost documentation, deliverables, impact targets, any permit applications and a schedule for large-scale system demonstration.

The project is funded by the Swedish Energy Agency and Vinnova with the aim of launching a large-scale electrified freight transport system in the metropolitan regions by the end of 2021, with the aim set on a large-scale national.
