Modeling of real estate transports close to real estate

In the feasibility study Modeling of freight transport close to real estate, the conditions for modeling expected volumes of freight transport close to real estate (parcel deliveries, postal deliveries, goods transport, food and food deliveries and recycling and waste) from homes and businesses will be investigated.

The purpose is, in the long run, to be able to provide credible data on how much freight traffic can be expected to and from an area already in the early stages of urban development and densification projects. This makes it possible to discuss measures at an early stage to reduce transport needs, negative climate impacts and congestion. A possible modeling of real estate transport close to real estate is planned to be integrated into the Sustainability Tool, which today provides corresponding modeling for passenger transport.

At present, there is no reliable basis for planning for future freight transport in densely populated areas. In the long run, this contributes to the public sector lacking sufficient data and knowledge about the needs to be able to make informed decisions about e.g. proposals for new delivery solutions or alternative delivery patterns. What is possible to model is strongly linked to data access. Access to data regarding goods deliveries is a challenge as many organizations that have relevant data are not motivated to share for business reasons. The combination of actors in this feasibility study is distinguished by the diversity of need owners and actors who hold relevant data. By involving them in the process, we hope that relevant actors can see what benefit data sharing can provide both for themselves and for community planning in general.

Expected result: 

  • A requirements picture that makes visible the wishes and needs of the tool's users for the new goods function
  • A survey of what input data is required to meet the users' needs and be able to design a calculation model and how the availability of this data looks and if necessary can be improved
  • Understanding the possibilities for how requirements from users and access to data can be translated into modeling and calculation methods
  • A clear picture of what is required to further develop the Sustainability Tool to include goods and what challenges an implementation project would face

Who is involved in the project?

The feasibility study will be project-led by the Göteborgsregionen, which is the main applicant, and other parties included in the project are IVL Swedish Environmental Institute, Johanneberg Science Park and Lindholmen Science Park as driving parties.

Other participating parties are Stockholm stad, Borås stad, Härryda kommun, Göteborg stad, Business region Göteborg (BRG), Landvetter södra utveckling, MölnDala fastighet, Best Transport, Gordon Delivery, iBoxen, Bzzt, Movebybike, and Velove Bikes as participating parties nShift, RISE, Södahl & Partners, Trivector, Trafikverket and Trafikanalys as reference group.
