Large-scale, coordinated and customized e-commerce deliveries

CLOSER - paket

Large-scale, coordinated and customized e-commerce deliveries will test a new large-scale solution for sustainable food deliveries, where chilled foods are transported in a reusable carton that adds cooling to the food to be sent out to consumers. Through a new packaging solution, food deliveries of refrigerated and frozen goods can take place without the need for a refrigerated truck, which is a prerequisite for more efficient transport.

In addition, the box contains a connected temperature sensor that allows the cooling chain to be kept unbroken from packing until it reaches the customer. The long-term goal is a global solution in the food sector but also in other sectors.

Purpose & goal

The project's goal is to show that a large-scale solution for sustainable deliveries of chilled food in an entire unbroken cold chain adapted to the e-commerce distribution processes to the end customer will work. It is unique that this takes place without cooling being added during transport through an insulating cardboard with a connected temperature sensor with an unbroken cooling chain. This makes it possible to increase the energy efficiency of refrigerated transports, as energy when cold is not supplied during transport. With brand new vehicles can through this perform the transports, such as electric vehicles without unreasonably large batteries.

Expected effects and results

To develop, demonstrate an unbroken cold chain without adding cold to the deliveries of chilled and frozen foods and show the possibility with this solution for distribution in completely new and more sustainable ways. The goal is a global solution in the food sector but also in other sectors. The project will also spread knowledge and develop research on food and e-commerce logistics through ReLog and their know-how in packaging logistics.
