Important with New Talents to the Logistics System

Monday, June 21, 2021

To reach a sustainable society a continuous supply of new talents to the logistics system is fundamental, and this is an important part of CLOSER’s commitments. During spring 2021, Wilma Pettersson and Petter Olsen, have served as interns at CLOSER. They have been part of both projects and general knowledge development.

Petter and Wilma are studying Internationell Affärslogistiker - Green Management (International Business Logistics - Green Management) at Hermods Yrkeshögskola (Higher Vocational Education), a school focusing on short programs developed in collaboration with the business community. A significant part of the program is several periods of workplace training with the purpose to achieve hands-on job related experience.

During their internship, Wilma and Petter have had the opportunity to engage in projects such as AI Driven Mobility, Maritime hydrogen installation – a concept study and the Västra Götaland regional godstransport strategy.

Offering internships to serve the logistics system with skilled talents is an important responsibility for CLOSER.

"If we are to reach a sustainable society we need a steady flow of new talents. We learn so much in the collaboration with students," says Nicklas Blidberg, Project Manager, CLOSER.

In collaboration with Västra Götalandsregionen, CLOSER is managing the development of the regional godstransport strategy. This work is gathering various stakeholders with the purpose to frame the action plan connected to the strategy. Wilma and Petter have developed parts of the action plan related to intermodal transshipment nodes in the region.

Wilma has made an assessment of the AI Driven Mobility initiative’s objectives against the UN Sustainable Development Goals Agenda 2030. She has also been leading and organizing the initiative's half year conference which took place mid June.

"Being an intern at CLOSER has been very interesting. CLOSER’s operations are different from other organizations and there are a diverse kind of activities going on at the same time. It has been rewarding, taking part in the latest knowledge within the transportation sector and receiving a better understanding of what I would like to do after graduation. It has also been a great place for me to develop my network as CLOSER collaborates with a broad range of actors and partners," says Wilma.

Petter has managed Maritime hydrogen installation – a concept study, a project which investigates the possibility of a sustainable transformation towards net zero greenhouse gas emissions through hydrogen as a fuel for the shipping industry.

"Most valuable with the internship at CLOSER has been to be a part of future and state of the art development and the opportunity to make an impact. It has been very educational and I have felt included despite a lot of work from home due to the pandemic crisis. In addition to this, being trusted as a project manager in an ongoing project shows that my work is appreciated", says Petter

"It has been fun to collaborate with Wilma and Petter as they have, in a very short amount of time, shown understanding and ability to quickly learn and analyze new knowledge. They have both been great assets in projects and for CLOSER’s organizational development. We wish them best of luck in their future endeavors!" says Anna Kristiansson, Project Manager, CLOSER.
