Long-distance multimodal freight transport
Achieving a transportation-efficient society requires better coordination and interaction among the different modes of transportation. By making use of the advantages of each individual mode of transportation, the conditions for multimodal transportation solutions are created.
The Multimodal Solutions focus area centers on innovations for increasing transportation efficiency for all modes of transportation and in connection with terminal management and transfer between modes of transportation.
Through a combination of transportation-efficient vessels, innovations in management and unloading at terminals, sustainable business models and the opportunities created through digitalization, this focus area creates a platform for testing ideas and sharing knowledge about new innovations that can support more efficient multimodal transportation.
Collaboration among public organizations, the business community and research is crucial for finding answers to the challenges that exist in the transportation and logistics industry. It is here, where these players overlap, that CLOSER makes its contribution by focusing on the needs and challenges that must be solved in order to achieve the goal of an increased share of multimodal transportation solutions.
The focus area serves as an umbrella for a number of working groups and a gathering of forces around current initiatives that individually contribute knowledge in specific domains.
At present, we focus on:
- High Capacity Transport (HCT)
- Innovations in rail transport
- Efficient terminals
- Horizontal collaborations and open data between transport buyers
