Data sharing in the supply chain
In order to achieve increased efficiency in the transport industry, effective information sharing between supply chain actors and stakeholders is required. With timely and accurate information, which comes to all involved actors, the prerequisites are created for well-founded decisions that support more efficient planning, organization and synchronization of the physical activities linked to the execution of the supply chain.
By creating the opportunity for actors to get "all the facts on the table", a basis is created for systematic prerequisite work by measuring and highlighting activities or events that create inefficiency in the physical implementation of the supply chain.
The starting point is that the data required for more efficient planning and management of a supply chain can be found with individual actors, but that it is not shared to the extent required to make the information relevant. Alternatively, the information is in a format that does not make it effectively shareable (static digital format, in paper form or shared verbally). The implication is that, in order to increase the efficiency of a supply chain, it is required that all data is digitized, that there is a willingness to share information and that tools are created to visualize the information for actors in the entire supply chain. When essential information is in place, there is sufficient information for the actors of the supply chain to make well-founded decisions and thus avoid sub-optimizing measures.
CLOSER participates in a number of projects and initiatives regarding data sharing in the supply chain. In addition to the Logistics Data Lab, we also participate in the CINEA-funded EU project FEDeRATED and sub-projects to this such as MMIS and RRTCDM.
