Digital Automatic Couplers and ongoing winter-tests
To save time and facilitate transport, automatic couplings are now being tested in Luleå to ensure that the technology can withstand winter weather conditions.
At the end of 2020, winter tests of automatic coupling were started at Luleå's railway yard. The tests take place as part of the EU program Shift2Rail's sub-project FR8RAIL IV with the aim of finding a standard for freight wagons' automatic coupling to be implemented in Europe. By 2030, the EU's goal is for all freight wagons to be equipped with automatic couplers.
